Ms. Merritt has maintained a solo practice in Lexington, Kentucky since 1998 practicing primarily in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, general civil litigation, business formation, medical malpractice, products liability, juvenile abuse/neglect, federal criminal defense and mental health court and wills/powers of attorney. Prior to opening her office in 1998, Ms. Merritt practiced with the firms of Stumbo, Bowling & Barber in Lexington, Kentucky and Deatherage, Myers & Self in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
Joyce A. Merritt was admitted to practice by the Kentucky Bar Association in 1994. She graduated from Marshall University, cum laude, in 1991. She competed on Marshall’s Debate Team and in 1991, finished as one of the top 4 debaters in the country. She then went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1994. While at UK College of Law, she served as Noted Editor on the Journal of Natural Resources and Environmental Law.
Ms. Merritt practices in all areas of central, eastern and southeastern Kentucky. She is admitted to practice before the state courts of Kentucky, United States District Court for Eastern District of KY, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. She has been a member of the Kentucky Academy of Trial Attorneys and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) since 1994. She has served on the Lawyer Referral Service of the Fayette County Bar Association.
Ms. Merritt serves on the Advisory Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Lexington and spends her free time rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, rafting and any other outdoor pursuit she can find.
